WEDDINGS AT ST PETER'S CHURCH

The perfect location for your wedding

The beauty of stained glass set in an early English style stone building can be the setting in which your wedding vows and prayers are made. The church accommodates 80 people comfortably (although up to 110 are able to see the proceedings), and is air-conditioned. There is easy access by public transportation and ample parking on site. We offer a prime wedding site for your church ceremony - there is the view of the sea on one side and on the other, beautiful Sydney Harbour views.

The Organ, once located in Napoleon's Palace, is a beautiful feature of the church. With minimal restrictions, virtually any wedding accompaniment is possible. We provide an organist for the ceremony.

General information

You don't need to be Anglican to be married at St Peter's Church. Our Christian wedding ceremonies are offered to everyone. If you don't have a home church, you are welcome to join us Sundays at 8.00am or 10.00am.

Because St Peter’s is a very popular church for weddings it's essential that you make a firm booking as soon as possible so as to avoid disappointment over date and time.
When you make your booking for the church a non-refundable deposit of $250 must be paid. This is deducted from the full wedding cost. Payment of the balance by cash or cheque is required prior to the wedding.

Initial Interview

Please phone or email cliff@stpeterswb.org.au for an initial appointment as soon as possible. You will need to bring along to this initial meeting your birth certificates or passports (birth certificates if born in Australia) and a $250 deposit. It is also good for you to come along to a service in the church on a Sunday morning to experience the church setting with a congregation. These services commence at 8.00am each Sunday.

A “Notice of Intended Marriage” form – an Australian Government requirement and other oaths and declarations (also required by the Government) will be discussed at this meeting. (For couples living overseas a copy of the 'Notice' may be downloaded. Click here)

Preparation

We at St Peter's take your marriage vows seriously and want to do everything we can to help you start your married life on a firm foundation. To help achieve this we do require that each couple attend a preparation course. These are held throughout the year in an informal atmosphere together with other engaged couples. All the details will be discussed at the initial meeting with the rector. To find out more about the course please click on 'The Marriage Preparation Course'

Flowers

The church florist supplies the main arrangements for all weddings. You are most welcome to add to the flower arrangements if you wish at your own cost. Pew ribbons, which remain the property of St Peter’s are also provided. You may provide your own ribbons if you wish. Additional flowers, including those behind the pew ribbons are also at your own cost.

Music

The Church organist will play the organ for your wedding. You will need to choose processional music for the bride’s entry and a recessional for the bridal party’s exit. Most couples also choose one or two hymns for congregational singing. The organist or the rector will be able to advise you on hymns and suitable processional and recessional music.
If you want special music in the service, please provide a copy of the music to the organist at least one month in advance. Note: music which sounds great on a sound system may require special adaptation for our over 200 year old baroque chamber organ!

If the organist is to accompany a soloist, music must be provided at least one month in advance. As there are frequently more than one wedding on any given day at St Peter’s, ensure the soloist knows the exact time and date of your wedding. Order of Service

We use the Second Order of Service in an "A Prayer Book For Australia" which begins on page 657. If you decide to prepare your own printed order of service, please see the rector about which prayers have to be included. Sample orders of service are available to give you ideas.

We suggest that you ask a couple of friends to act as ushers to welcome people and distribute the orders of service (or prayer and hymn books).

Scripture Readings

As our wedding ceremony is a Christian service, you may only have readings from the Holy Bible. You may ask a member of your family or someone close to you to read the Bible passage(s).

Photography

There are restrictions with regard to taking photographs and video filming.
During the service photographs and video filming may only be done from the organ loft or from the end of the aisle. Photographs may only be taken from the front of the church as the bridal party comes up the aisle. Photographers should liaise with the Verger when they arrive at the church.
It is essential that the photographer(s) be as unobtrusive as possible.

Confetti

Confetti or rice MUST NOT be thrown in the church grounds. Rose petals may be thrown away from the church entrance .
